Eastern Sierra Fishing

The lakes and streams of the High Sierra as well as the Owens Valley have the primary element of good trout habitat in abundance: cold, well-oxygenated, unpolluted water. The principal trout of the High Sierra brook, rainbow, brown and golden. Due to planting, brook and rainbow are more common. Although brown and golden are un the minority overall, they can be the majority in some lakes and streams.

From Bishop to Bridgeport, fishermen can choose from numerous lakes, rivers and creeks. These include some of the state's premier wild trout waters and even more put-and-take fisheries where the Department of Fish and Game stocks a healthy population of catchable-size trout. Regardless of what kind of fishing you prefer, anglers should always consult the DFG regulations and observe all sign postings to conform to the regulations wherever they decide to fish.

Lone Pine Area

Diaz Lake is located on the northern edge of the Mojave Desert at an elevation of 3,700 feet above sea level and three miles south of Lone Pine, California. The lake was naturally formed by the earthquake of 1872 when 18 miles of the Owens Valley floor dropped some 20 feet. The winter and spring months of October through May 15 offer excellent fishing for rain bow trout, bass and catfish.
